Day 18: 4 Piece Braid

Hair du Jour Day 18: January 18, 2012

 4 Piece Braid

How to do it:
Divide hair into 4 pieces at nape of neck.
Wrap outer 2 pieces over inside 2 pieces, forming an x.
Continue until end of hair is reached.
*This is a modified fishtail.  Just keep reusing the sections instead of selecting new ones.

Time to do it: About 2 minutes

I fudged up the top piece a little (did it without looking).  Think this would be cute with different colored strands or ribbons mixed in.  Maybe tinsel?  Would show detail well.

Here are some pics that may help you learn to braid with 4 pieces.

 First:
Fold the left piece into the middle.
 Next:
Fold the right piece into the middle, crossing over the first piece you crossed (makes an x in the middle)
Continue these steps.  The next step would be to cross 2 into the middle, then 3, then 4 then 1.  If you are making x's, 2 and 3 would make an x in the middle, then 4 and 1 again, and so on...
It looks very pretty!  I taught myself how to do this when I was little.  Fun variation on the regular English 3 piece braid and can be done with different textures with hair, ribbons, yarn, etc.
