Hair du Jour Day 60: February 29, 2012
4 strand braid made of 4 mini braids
How to do it:
Pull hair back into medium ponytail. Secure with strong ponytail holder. Divide ponytail into 4 sections. Create 4 mini braids and tie each off with mini elastics. Braid the 4 braids into a 4 piece braid (the weaving is similar to a fishtail braid, just repeating). Secure this braid with a loose ponytail holder or tiny elastic. Spray with hairspray.
Time to do it: about 3 minutes at a mom's group
I like it! I've been playing with different kinds of braids and this one is lovely. The mini braids lend themselves nicely to being pieces woven into a larger braid because they are flat and easy to work with (they flop into place as you turn them to the right angle). A Must-add to go-to list.
Here are some pics that may help you learn to braid with 4 pieces.
First:
Fold the left piece into the middle.
Next:
Fold the right piece into the middle, crossing over the first piece you crossed (makes an x in the middle)
Continue these steps. The next step would be to cross 2 into the middle, then 3, then 4 then 1. If you are making x's, 2 and 3 would make an x in the middle, then 4 and 1 again, and so on...

It looks very pretty! I taught myself how to do this when I was little. Fun variation on the regular English 3 piece braid and can be done with different textures with hair, ribbons, yarn, etc.
