Hair du Jour Day 68: March 8, 2012
Wrapped Pony with Strategic Braids
How to do it:
Pull hair into medium ponytail. Secure with strong ponytail holder and support weight underneath holder with bobby pin x.
Choose 3 places to create braids in varying widths. I did a 1 inch braid on the right, a 1/8 inch braid on the left and a 1 inch fishtail braid underneath.
A different way to wrap: Pull a 1 inch chunk of hair from underneath your ponytail (since hair from the top may be shorter in layered hair and would have a visible starting point for the next step). Wrap the 1 inch section around the ponytail holder only once (fatter wrap). Secure underneath ponytail by affixing it to a 1/4 ponytail strand near the base with a tiny elastic.
Time to do it: About 5 minutes
Braids add texture and varying widths create visual interest. The fishtail underneath but close to the side creates a different kind of look since you only see the side of the braid. I also played with a different way to wrap to conceal the ponytail holder by choosing a wider section, wrapping only once, and attaching it with a tiny elastic to a piece of hair underneath (usually I create a bobby pin x underneath attached to the hair nearest my scalp...this one attaches to the ponytail itself close to the ponytail holder). Not bad for a day's work! This was another "waiting in the car so I may as well make myself useful" creation. I was a little thwarted by humidity, but hey, that's Florida. Right?
