Day 44: Heart-Topped Ponytail

Hair du Jour Day 44: February 13, 2012

Heart-Topped Ponytail

How to:
Ponytail: On dry or damp hair, Pull hair back into medium or low ponytail.  Secure with strong ponytail holder.  From top of ponytail, pull out a 1/8 inch piece (Save for later...you may want to have someone hold this or pin it up out of your way for now.
Wrap: From the bottom of your ponytail, pull out a 1/8 inch piece to wrap around your ponytail holder.  Wrap around ponytail holder as many times as you can (for me it was two) and pin with bobby pin x underneath ponytail.
Heart:  Go back to your 1/8 in top piece and hold it freely in your right hand (unpin it if you pinned it before).  Make a loop that connects back to your ponytail (it should look like a big loop that sits on top of your ponytail).  Pin with a bobby pin x at the tip of your hair from this loop, right underneath the ponytail holder.  These pins should extend down underneath the ponytail holder so they are hidden.  Take a hair pin (different than a bobby pin) and pin the middle of your loop down (centerpoint of heart).  Use more hair pins on the sides and top of your heart so they don't stick out from your head into a weird shape.  Try not to let your pins be seen, but use enough so that you have a clearly defined heart.  Spray with hairspray and enjoy!

Time to do it:  About 5 minutes

I have mentioned before that I have slippery hair.  I got to the loop part and the heart was a slippery little sucker and kept pinning crazily.  I was able to do this in almost no time flat, but I may hairspray the loop first to give it more stick so it doesn't slip away from me.  Subtle look for Valentine's Day or a wedding without looking like a second grader (although I will be using this on my 4 year old's hair for Pre-K tomorrow, too)  :) Would be cute spray painted pink!
