Day 76: Big Fat Bun

Hair du Jour Day 76:  March 16, 2012

Big Fat Bun

How to do it:
Okay, to do this you need a teasing comb (see previous post for how to backcomb to see what one looks like...they're 59 cents at Sally).  First, get the front of your hair situated in a nice headband...this glittery one I got from H&M for around 6 bucks.  I smoothed down the front, sprayed and strategically placed the headband.  After that I teased the heck out of the crown of my hair I pulled it into a high ponytail.  I needed two strong ponytail holders to hold the weight of my hair and keep it in a high spot.

Next, grab the tail of your ponytail and tease the junk out of it.  Go nuts.  The more you tease the bigger the bun will be.  Wrap the ponytail around loosely to create a large bun and pin with bobby pin x's.  Not much pinning necessary because the teasing (or "backcombing") takes some of the slippery-ness out of the equation.  Not bad for a prom or wedding bun without using a foam filler (a piece of round foam or a little foam donut to create volume).

Time to do it:  Since I was experimenting, about 5 minutes.  Could do it more quickly next time.

Was a little fancy with my shorts and flip-flops, but I'm happy with the overall look just in case I want to wear something like this in the future and it's definitely not a look I would normally have tried :)  I feel like this could be a fun look for a Prom, Quinceanera, Homecoming or Bat Mitzvah.  Not at all bad, just way out of character for me...especially for a casual night out with my friends.  They looked twice, but didn't seem to mind :)  Hope you like it!  <3
